We at Precision Plumbing are thrilled to share the latest updates from the Katie Blessing Center project in East Charlotte, North Carolina, where our team is applying our 45 years of expertise in plumbing to support this vital community initiative. As the plumbing contractor, we've been actively involved in installing essential systems to ensure the facility's seamless operation, working alongside lead contractors JE Dunn Construction and Marand Builders, Inc.

The Katie Blessing Center, set to become North Carolina's largest and most advanced pediatric behavioral health facility, broke ground in April 2025 and is progressing steadily toward its phased openings. Phase 1, involving the renovation of an existing building across from the former Eastland Mall on Central Avenue, is on track to open later in 2026. This initial phase will feature 48 acute inpatient beds, a 6-10 chair Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) supported by a $2.5 million investment from Novant Health, telehealth services, indoor recreation spaces, and an outdoor courtyard. Phase 2, a three-story addition slated for 2027, will add up to 24 more beds for acute inpatient and psychiatric residential treatment, bringing the total to 72 beds.

Designed for children and teens aged 5-17 facing mental health challenges, Autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders, the $62 million center will offer innovative, evidence-based therapies, outpatient care, and urgent mental health services. By addressing a critical shortage--cutting the local bed shortage by nearly 50%--it will provide comprehensive, individualized support under one roof, helping families navigate crises and fostering hope for better mental wellness among young people.

The project tackles North Carolina's staggering youth mental health crisis, where demand for specialized care far outstrips availability. Experts highlight its role in improving community well-being by offering accessible resources that prevent escalation of issues, reduce emergency room visits, and promote long-term recovery. With input from a student advisory council of over 30 teens, the facility ensures youth voices shape its programs, making it a beacon of compassionate, community-driven care. The City of Charlotte's support underscores its importance to the region's health infrastructure.
